The Ursa Major Triplet with IFN

M81, M82 and NGC 3077 galaxies lay some 12 million light-years away from Earth in the constellation of the Great Bear (Ursa Major). The triplet are strongly interacting with each other. Observations of the 21-centimeter hydrogen line suggest that this gravitational link exists among them.

Integrated Flux Nebula (IFN) can be seen around the galaxies. This faint glow is caused by the combined light of the stars of the Milky Way reflected and re-emitted by interestellar gas and dust.
