Located in the Sagittarius constellation and surrounded by thousands of stars, this popular region of our Milky Way galaxy hosts two bright nebulae that are really worth a visit, the Lagoon (M8) and Trifid (M20) Nebulae. Both nebulae were classified by the french astronomer Charles Messier in his popular “Messier Catalog”. The whole area shown in this image covers an apparent area around 6 full moons.

In this telescopic view we can appreciate the huge amount of gas and dust present in this region that presents strong H alpha emissions. Several star forming regions and Bok Globules can be found in this area.
